S&S Vision in FP7
The ICT focus in FP7 is on a limited set of concrete targets, or Challenges, to be addressed by high-risk, medium-to-long term, trans-national collaborative research. Challenge 1 is defined as "Pervasive and Trusted Network and Service Infrastructures" with the following seven objectives:
- The Network of the Future
- Service and Software Architectures, Infrastructures and Engineering
- ICT in support of the networked enterprise
- Secure, dependable and trusted Infrastructures
- Networked Media
- New Paradigms and Experimental Facilities (in the meaning of Advanced networking approaches to architectures and protocols as well as large scaled testing environments)
- Critical Infrastructure Protection
If we have a look at the 2nd objective in relation to ECSS we can summarize the following main targets in the field of S & S:
- Service architectures, platforms, technologies, methods and tools that enable context awareness and discovery, advertising, personalisation and dynamic composition of services.
- Service/software engineering approaches development processes, product lifecycle and tools for dynamically composed systems and promoting new open development paradigms with a higher degree of involvement of joint user and development communities.
- Strategies and technologies enabling mastery of complexity.
- Virtualisation tools, system software, middleware and network-centric operating systems, including Grid-based systems, that orchestrate unlimited, heterogeneous and dynamic resources distributed across multiple platforms as a single entity, and provide platform-independent access and sharing of knowledge, processing, communication, storage and content.
More detailed information about the topics and current calls is provided at the FP7 section of the CORDIS Website
