Consortium activities
The 3S project centres on preparing a Joint European White Paper (WP3) for R&D and Industry in the in the Service and Software Architectures, Infrastructures and Engineering field. The aim is to push the involvement of the EU to a competitive position worldwide by identifying strategies and technologies that will facilitate future developments and reduce fragmentation.
With the creation of ECSS (European Community for Software & Software Services – Architectures, Infrastructures, Engineering) 3S will establish a platform for networking and knowledge transfer between the relevant scientific and industrial communities and for jointly pursuing the interests of the stakeholders in the field of IST.
Activities performed in WP1, 2 and 4 include the necessary measures to enhance interaction among the S&S-scene.

- WP1 - Preparing the 3S Green Paper by identifying and studying some key areas:
- Compilation of the state-of-the-art. Increase Clustering and Cooperation of Research for S&S.
- Analysis on industries and markets. Linking Industry and Research.
- WP2 - Allowing for contributions on the selected areas from the European S&S community through a consultation process. ECSS Workshops
- WP3 - Delivering an Action Paper to the EC in order to support and motivate future action. ECSS White Paper.
- WP4 - Dissemination and public awareness. ECSS International Conference
- WP5 - Project Management
The work plan is characterized by the following elements:
- Improving transparency, interaction and cooperation between the different stakeholders responsible for the coordination of R&D activities and delivering a clear view of the state and future directions of European Research in S&S. (WPs1, 2).
- Fostering the link between industry and research in order to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness in S&S by identifying strategic opportunities for European industries and by compiling scenarios for the future development of S&S industries at both the national and the European level (WPs 1, 2).
- Delivering recommendations of action to the EC in order to support and motivate the strategy for the future and competitiveness of Europe in the S&S field, in R&D and at an industrial level. (WP3).
- Develop and implement a joint action paper – ECSS White Paper (WP3).
- Exchange and dissemination of information throughout all stages of the work plan (WPs 2, 4).
- Providing an efficient and effective management of the project (WP5).
