Objectives
With the creation of ECSS (European Community for Software & Software Services – Architectures, Infrastructures, Engineering) 3S established a platform for networking and knowledge transfer between the relevant scientific and industrial communities and for jointly pursuing the interests of the stakeholders in the field of IST.
The main objectives of 3S were to:
- Create a 3S Green Paper concerning Service and Software Architectures, Infrastructures and Engineering (S&S) based on the analysis of the state-of-the-art of research framed within the socio-economic aspects in S&S.
- Allow for contributions from the European S&S community (ECSS) implementing a comprehensive consultation process involving international experts from both research and industry. The objective will be to mobilise all players in the preparation of the final Action Paper, defining jointly common long-term views for key areas of S&S in the future.
- Publish the ECSS White Paper for R&D and Industry in S&S identifying technological and socio-economic trends/needs and developing and integrating them into the current and future S&S environment.
- Identify potential research areas related to S&S looking towards FP7 and national and regional RTD programmes.
- Make relevant stakeholders in IST aware of a common S&S-identity, establishing the basis for a European Community for Software & Software Services – Architectures, Infrastructures, Engineering (ECSS), in order to pursue their interests jointly.
The main results of 3S were to:
- Promote exploitation of Service and Software Architectures, Infrastructures and Engineering in developed communities that will enable the diffusion of technology results and innovations built on the project and through the 3S International Conference.
- Develop the ECSS White Paper and enable synergies with industry and research linked organisations.
Dissemination and sustainability of results beyond the duration of the project will be assured through the creation of a self-financing bi-annual International Conference. A permanent Website communication platform will serve as a network for all stakeholders within the S&S-scene, providing a foundation for further co-operation and encouraging support in research and innovation and information exchange for those dealing with research policies in S&S on a European and non-European level.
