This conference, jointly organised by the projects 3S and CHALLENGERS aimed to set the foundation for an annual European Summit on Software Services and Service Oriented Knowledge Utilities technologies.

More than 150 experts, including high level researchers, top industrial and political representatives from the European Commission and from national authorities, came together for two days, to discuss the future of Grids & Software and Service oriented Architectures.

The latest results of the ECSS White Paper on Software and Service Architectures, Infrastructures and Engineering and of the Challengers’ Research Agenda and Roadmap on Grids have been presented and served as the basis for a fruitful discussion and interaction.

The rich programme featured:

• Plenary sessions including VIP speakers from the research and business environment and EC representatives.
• Parallel sessions offering the audience an interactive platform to discuss on Research, Business, Standards and Non-Technical Challenges in the S&S and Grid sector.
• Exhibition and networking setting the scene for new collaboration opportunities.
• Closure of the event with an EC information presentation.
