Aim of the Workshop

The 2nd workshop of the ECSS (European Community for Software & Software Services) brought together experts from the scientific community and from the industry for a day full of exchange of thoughts and fruitful discussions.

Same as for the 1st workshop held on September 28, 2007 in Brussels the aim was to work out strategic judgements and guidelines for the European Commission and the community of European researchers and entrepreneurs active in the software services (SS) field, through discussion of software services related challenges identified by 3S Green Paper.

The outcomes of the workshop will have direct influence on the “ECSS White Paper”, the action paper meant for the European Commission, prepared by the 3S Consortium, including judgements and policy recommendations shared by the widest possible number of European entities and individuals with a stake in the area of software services.

The Participants

The ECSS workshop brought together experts from the scientific community and from the industry, establishing the basis for a productive Europe-wide dialogue between research, industry and intermediaries in the IST field as a whole, and in software services area in particular.
The workshop especially targeted experts interested in the following areas or topics: Software Engineering & Software Services; Dynamic Discovery, Matching and Composition of Software Services; SS-related Semantics; Quality of Service, Service Level Agreements, Non-functional Aspects; Legal Regulation of Convergent Electronic Communications, Privacy Protection.

Participants who attended the workshop had the opportunity to:
  • be published at European level and to have their voice heard by the EC and the community
  • take part in the process of shaping the legal framework for software services
  • identify ideas and contacts for future projects and partnerships
  • + for SMEs: to assure, that the “ECSS White Paper” will incorporate the special needs and views relevant for SMEs and let the successful SMEs in the area of software services be visible at a European level.
